New airline seat: SkyRide for budget travelers. The Italian company Aviointeriors is introducing a new “SkyRide” standing seat which aims to allow airlines to put more passengers onto budget flights.

What is this SkyRider – a much reduced seat pitch, an ultra-high density seat or Stand-up-cabin?

From various media reporting we understand that some airline companies would even want to go for a “Stand-Up Cabin”? We are proposing a 23-inch pitch or less; the “SkyRider”.

The “SkyRider”, is an ultra-high density seat presently completely engineered and to be finally tested. The SkyRider has been designed and engineered to offer the possibility to even further reduce ticket prices while still maintaining sound profitability, which, even with a dual or three class seating arrangement, will allow maximum certified passenger capacity of the aircraft.

With a much reduced seat pitch, the SkyRider preserves a comfortable position for the low fare passengers.

The SkyRider is intended as a new basic class. The passenger’s seating position is similar to that of a touring motor-scooter rider. This posture permits that the overall longitudinal space occupied by the seat
with the seated passenger is far less than that of a conventional, very high-density 28” economy class seat.

Furthermore, in the SkyRider arrangement, a partial overlapping of the passengers seating between rows is allowed, thus further increasing the cabin density.

The seat structure itself also provides space for personal baggage.

Ryanair: Spanish Court Victory Against Atrapalo

Ryanair wins Spanish Court Victory Against “screen-scraper” Atrapalo

Ryanair, the world’s favourite lowcost airline, welcomed its victory in the Commercial Court of Barcelona (in a case brought by screen-scraper website Atrapalo), which confirmed that Ryanair is entitled under the Spanish Constitution to exclusively distribute its low fares.

The Spanish Court also ruled that Ryanair’s comparative advertisements complied with Spanish law. These same ads were previously censored by another Spanish court, a decision which Ryanair appealed to the Constitutional Court of Spain.

The Court finally upheld Ryanair’s right to defend its exclusive distribution policy by publicly addressing screenscrapers in terms such as: “illegal sellers”, “parasites of the sector” and “dead wood”. The Court ruled that Ryanair is not allowed to describe screenscrapers as “bastards”.

This Spanish court victory is yet another milestone win for Ryanair after similar court wins against other screenscrapers in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK.

“This Spanish court victory is another milestone in Ryanair’s fight against internet screenscrapers and resellers. Websites such as Atrapalo have for too long been getting away with unauthorised reselling of Ryanair’s flights, with the addition of charges which consumers don’t pay when they book directly with Ryanair.

Ryanair is pleased that the Spanish Court has recognised Ryanair’s constitutional right to exclusively sell its low fares on www.ryanair.com. This policy is at the core of Ryanair’s low-cost / low-fare business model and at the heart of our ongoing pro-consumer fight against the unauthorised use of Ryanair’s website.

Genuine price comparison only websites, who wish to present Ryanair’s low fares information to consumers, as opposed to reselling Ryanair flights with additional fees and charges, can enter into a licence agreement with Ryanair to provide price comparison only information. If Atrapalo is genuinely interested in providing an honest price comparison service, it is welcome to sign up to this licence which is subject to a charitable donation of €100.”

Pilots’ strike – Lufthansa come up with special flight schedule and complete information for their passengers.

Due to a strike which has been announced by the pilots union “Vereinigung Cockpit” (VC) from 22 February to 25 February 2010 Lufthansa is expecting this to influence its flight operations.

To offer passengers the best planning security currently possible, Lufthansa has put together a special flight schedule that shows the flights that will be operated based on the information the company has at the moment. Lufthansa will constantly adapt all bookings according to the most recent information available.

Wherever possible passengers will be rebooked on alternative flights. The current status of your bookings can be viewed online “My Booking”.

What can I do if my international flight is cancelled?

Lufthansa will make every effort to book you on an alternative flight, subject to timetable and available capacity. Contact a Lufthansa ticket desk in time for amending your travel documentation.

If your flight is cancelled as a result of strike action and you decide to call off your trip, Lufthansa will offer a refund on your Lufthansa ticket* or rebooking you on a flight at a later date free of charge.

If the flight you have booked is cancelled and there is no alternative flight booked, yet, you should contact the Lufthansa Service Center in Germany on +49 / (0)800 / 8 50 60 70 or on one of their local phone numbers.

My flight is not cancelled, can I rebook my journey even though?

The 95 people who have flown the most with the Spanish airline since the Iberia Plus was launched got issued “Platinum 10” cards

Iberia’s chairman, Antonio Vázquez, met in the Madrid Casino on September 11 with the airline’s best customers to reward them for their loyalty. The 95 people who have flown the most with the Spanish airline since the Iberia Plus was launched will be issued “Platinum 10” cards in recognition of the trust they have placed in the company. These customers each fly an average of 50 times a year with Iberia, and some fly as many as 250 times, or even 300 times a year on the Madrid-Barcelona Puente Aéreo shuttle.

Since the programme began each of these customers has earned enough points for 343 Business Plus class flights to South America, or 3,000 flights on the shuttle.

“Platinum 10” cardholders will enjoy all the benefits offered to Iberia Plus Platinum cardholders for the next 10 years, and will not be obliged to renew their cards. United Airlines International Checked Baggage Policy

United Airlines revised checked baggage policy with changes taking effect for tickets purchased on or after September 30, 2009.

For all United Economy® travel between the United States and Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean, a fee may apply for your first and/or second checked bags.

Baggage fees for travel from Europe to North America costs 32 Euros to 35 Euros depending if the second bag is paid at the airport or paid online. Fees for travel from North America to Europe is 50 USD/50 CAD, respectively only 45 if paid online.

Baggage fees for travel between Mexico or the Caribbean and the U.S. or Canada will cost 30 USd or 27 USD if paid online. One Bag is free.

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, launched a €25 rescue fare for Skyeurope passengers left behind

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (1st Sept), launched a €25 (one way including taxes and charges) rescue fare* for SkyEurope passengers who may have been left stranded or have had their travel plans disrupted by the bankruptcy of the airline yesterday.

This fare applies to Bratislava flights to/from Alicante, Barcelona (Girona), Brussels (Charleroi), Rome (Ciampino), Liverpool and London (Stansted).

ELFAA airlines rescue Sky Europe passengers

ELFAA airline members include: Blue Air, bmibaby, easyJet, Flybe, Jet2.com, Norwegian, Ryanair, Sverige Flyg, transavia.com, vueling and Wizz Air.

BRUSSELS – Following the news that Sky Europe has filed for bankruptcy, ELFAA, “European Low Fares Airline Association” member airlines have sprung into action to offer an emergency rescue package to those passengers who find themselves stranded as a result of the suspension of Sky Europe’s operations.

ELFAA airlines that have overlapping routes with Sky Europe will be offering specially reduced fares to enable passengers who booked with Sky Europe to return home cheaply and quickly. They will be transported back to their original point of departure or the nearest airport served by the ELFAA airline concerned.

Wi-Fi: probably every “Mashable” reader has used it, most of us way too much. Most of the time you can grab it on-the-go or on your mobile phone. But for years there’s one place where you couldn’t access it: in the sky.
